Magistream Creature Contest: Golemhound by lifanonline
Magistream Creature Contest: Golemhound
Golemhounds are strange creatures- they are not alive in the sense that you and I are alive.  Made completely of stone, through and through, they have no blood vessels, muscles, or bones.  Their life force comes entirely from the one big red gemstone set in their chest.  They grow by collecting stone around this gemstone  - kind of like how a snowball grows by collecting snow.  A Golemhound will be made of different kinds of stone depending on where it comes from. As such, Golemhounds never stop growing.  However, the older they get, the slower they grow and the less they move.  It is believed that some of the smaller mountains in the Alasre Mountain range are actually just massive sleeping Golemhounds.  These creatures also never die, though they can be rendered lifeless by separating their life stone from the surrounding rock.  But once this life stone comes back into contact with the earth, it is "reanimated" and it starts its life over as a young Golemhound.

Golemhounds are generally easy-going creatures.  They are extremely loyal and easy to train.  Fiercely protective, they are often used as by magi as guardians.  Since they are made of stone, golemhounds do not have the same urges as living creatures.  They can sit in front of a door silent and still as a statue for days, weeks, months, even years on end without having to move.  The only sign of life that gives away a golemhound is the rustling of its leaves when there is no wind.

So I joined DeviantArt a little bit less than 4 years ago?  I came to deviantArt from the mywarriorcats forum (it's since been renamed TeenRPG).  There were several pretty amazing artists on that site.  I joined in like 6th grade, so I was about 12 years old.  I thought my art was pretty cool, but actually it was crap.  I guess that's how we all look back on old artwork XD.  After seeing all the amazing artists here on dA, I told myself that I wanted to be as good as them.  So I found myself focusing more and more on my art.

I guess I haven't been super active all these years, but I have been pretty consistently posting most of my stuff.  And it's always fun to go back and see how far my art has come in all that time.  So even if I'm missing out on the "social" part of social media, this site has still been a great tool to track my progress all this time.

I think my favorite thing about this site is the communities.  Mostly the ACEO trading communities.  During my time here, I've sent and received dozens of ACEO cards from all over the world and that's something that's just absolutely amazing.  Like, I would have never been put in touch with all of these people if it hadn't been for dA.

And just to see how far my art has come, here is the first thing I ever uploaded about four years ago:
Winged Huskey by lifanonline

And here's where my art is now:
A Fiery Evening by lifanonline  Sunset on Sunflowers by lifanonline  Patterned Lion by lifanonline  Angry Tiger by lifanonline  Frisbee in the Storm by lifanonline

As you can see, I've come a long way.  I'm still not completely satisfied with my art, and I still haven't really developed a cohesive "style" yet, but I'm getting there.  As they say, you never really stop learning and you never stop getting better.  I hope one day, I can look back on the art that I've posted here today and tell myself, "I was okay back then, but I've come so far since then."

Hello everyone! My name is Lifan, I'm from Indiana. I like drawing, TV, internet, and playing ultimate frisbee.

Currently, I go to Herron School of Art and I'm majoring in Illustration and Painting. Most likely. I haven't quite decided yet. I also might end up doing New Media. Actually, I have no idea what I'm going to do with my life.

But anyways, talk to me! I would be super happy just to receive notes saying "hi," or "what's up?" I don't bite!
